your first ultra

hey could you share at here what it's like on the build up for the 1st ultra run event. from what I heard it's like you go much slower and more drinks and snacks and add hiking for the hills instead of wasting energy then run flats and downhill sections but slower than you marathon pace yeah. I'm very interested to learn more at here as the furthest I've ever ran is 26.3 miles according to strava yeah.

I've seen on strava where people do like a 30 plus mile long run but it looks more like a walk from the pacing where it say average pace 14 minute mile. I think they are just getting used to the distance. I think the best ultra runner's seem to do average pace 10 minute mile, it's a different thing compared to training for a half or full marathon yeah.

It was very similar to marathon training.
The first change was to include "back-to-back" runs when I did my long run.
If I was doing a long run, I would make sure that there was a good length run the day before or the day after. Quite often I'd do that by doing a 15+ mile run on the way home from work and then a 6 - 8 mile run on the way into work the next morning. If I was able to get a long run in on the weekend, instead of midweek, I'd try and do a 13 miler the day before or after. The idea is to get your body used to running on tired legs .
The second change was with nutrition. Instead of using gels and energy drinks I changed to real food (normally roast or jacket potato or porridge bars and zero tabs to get salts into my re-hydration.
Everything else was pretty much the same as my marathon training.
